Cervical Disc Replacement: A Systematic Review of Medline Indexed Literature
نویسندگان
چکیده
Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) currently remains as the gold standard treatment for cervical disc herniation and Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) refractory to conservative management. Even though anterior cervical fusion provides excellent clinical results, it has been implicated in abnormal kinematic strain on adjacent disc level resulting in symptomatic adjacent segment disease. Anterior cervical disc replacement (ACDR) is an alternative procedure to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. The aims of cervical disc replacement were to preserve the motion at the index level and to protect the adjacent levels from accelerated symptomatic degeneration. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the outcomes of cervical disc replacement published in MEDLINE indexed literature. A literature search was carried out in medical electronic database MEDLINE.

The Cervical Sequestrated Disc Fragment Presenting as Mass Lesion: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Background & Importance: Disc herniation is defined as the prolapsed of material disc into the spinal canal. If the disc fragment is free in spinal canal, it is called sequestration disc fragment. Occasionally, alteration in sequestration disc fragment makes the diagnosis of the disc herniation, challenging. Case Presentation: We reviewed a rare case of the cervical sequestrated disc...
متن کاملSubcutaneous Emphysema as a Complication of Tonsillectomy: A Systematic Literature Review and Case Report
Introduction: Subcutaneous and mediastinal emphysema is a rare complication after tonsillectomy. This case presentation and literature review summarizes the existing literature on this unusual complication. Materials and Methods: This study presents a case of a 21-year-old man who developed a cervical subcutaneous emphysema 6 days after tonsillectomy, whereby conservative treatment produced sp...
متن کاملQuality of systematic reviews: an example of studies comparing artificial disc replacement with fusion in the cervical spine
Cervical artificial disc replacement (C-ADR) is now an alternative to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Many studies have evaluated the efficacy of C-ADR compared with ACDF. This led to a series of systematic reviews and meta-analyses to evaluate the evidence of the superiority of one intervention against the other. The aim of the study presented here was to evaluate the quality o...
متن کاملBryan total disc arthroplasty: a replacement disc for cervical disc disease
Total disc arthroplasty is a new option in the treatment of cervical degenerative disc disease. Several types of cervical disc prostheses currently challenge the gold-standard discectomy and fusion procedures. This review describes the Bryan Cervical Disc System and presents the Bryan prosthesis, its indications, surgical technique, complications, and outcomes, as given in the literature.

BACKGROUND Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) was almost the "golden standard" technique in treatment of symptomatic cervical degenerative disc disease, however, it cause motion loss of the indexed level, increase the intradiscal pressure and motion of the adjacent levels, and may accelerate the degeneration of adjacent level. Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) was designed to preserv...
